We would like to thank Markus from our Munich City, Germany Chapter for contributing to this article and sharing pictures for the tech page. Thanks Bro! When you think of a lowrider what comes to mind besides rims and hydraulics? How about tricked out paint jobs! This article will give you an idea how custom patterns are laid down on a car.
The Regal started it’s life in dark blue. The decision is made to paint it Silver pearl with a custom blue pattern roof.
The original paint finish is sanded smooth.
Primer is applied to cover over where the paint was sanded down.
A white base coat is laid down and left to dry.
After a wet sanding a silver pearl coat of paint is laid down.
3 and 6mm masking taping is laid down carefully to make the patterns.
Cobalt blue candy paint is mixed.
The cobalt blue candy is freehanded in a diagonal hand movement to get a clean cut on one side where the tape is and a fading (fade out) on the other side.
After block sanding with 2000 grit sand paper it is ready to receive the six layers of clear with pearl effect!
After the paint cured the entire car gets block sanded with 2000 grit sand paper and six layers of clear with pearl effect are applied.
Thanks again Markus!
