Cab Corner Repair

A very common problem on some full size trucks is cab corner rot. This is true on parts of the country that have harsh winters. In this section we are with Steve, he is a master auto body man. Watching Steve repair the cab corner was amazing. The cab corner was repaired in 20-30 minutes not counting finishing body work. We thank Steve for his time and allowing us to see him at work.

Above: The original rotted cab corner was cut away using a cutting wheel.

Above: Here Steve trims the replacement cab corner a little bigger than needed with a plasma cutter.

Above: Steve drills out some holes so he can spot weld the new cab corner in place.

Above: A vice grip is used to hold the cab corner in the bottom and a quick temporary weld is put on top.

Above: Note the cab corner over lapping the original cab.

Above: Using a cutting wheel the over lapping cab corner is cut away and the original cab is scored.

Above: It is cut all the way around with the cutting wheel.

Above: Once the replacement cab corner is trimmed Steve uses the cutting wheel to cut the scored line on the original cab

Above: Now you will have a perfect fit just like the seam on a carpet.

Above: A MIG welder is used to tack the cab corner in different spots. Only small areas can be welded at a time because to much heat can warp sheet metal.

Above: The cab corner has been welded. The body lines are double checked and it's ready to be cleaned up.

Above: The cab corner is ready for some body filler and it will be ready for paint.
